Piper Dunlap is a licensed “East Asian Medicine Practitioner,” and he practices Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He was raised in the West Indies where he first became interested in herbal medicine by collecting herbs in the jungle for a local healer. He was a professional mariner for many years before he was introduced to acupuncture as a patient. He suffered from chronic low back pain and sciatica due to complications from a sports injury. “Acupuncture saved me from surgery and gave me my quality of life back. It also gave me a great new career helping people as I was helped.”
Piper has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine in Port Townsend, Washington since 2003. He received his bachelors from the University of California at Berkeley and his Masters of Chinese Medicine at Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine, where he was at the top of his class. In his practice Piper employs several modalities including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, and diet and lifestyle counseling. “Because I practice in a small town, I'm necessarily a generalist, however, over the years my specialties have become pain management (acute and chronic), women's health, geriatric medicine, mind/body imbalances, and integrative cancer support.”
When he's not practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine, Piper spends time with his wife and two children, races sailboats, sits on the boards of two maritime-related non-profits, plays music, and generally celebrates the miracle of being here.
